A lot of us take pride in being a perfectionist. We see it as a badge of honor
As someone who used to be a perfectionist, I see it different
To me perfectionists are people who try to be perfect so others cannot see ANY mistake or give others the opportunity to point out our flaws
That’s a lot of pressure to put on yourself!
Perfectionism keeps us stuck and unhappy because it’s unrealistic
We are chasing something that will never happen keeping us continually feeling bad that we haven’t “made” it
Perfectionism is a moving target that we will never achieve
Why do we do this to ourselves?
Instead :
First just be aware that this something you may be or are doing
Acknowledge your accomplishments no matter how big or small
See ”failure” or ”mistakes” as a indication or growth and that you are still working on getting to your goal but you are on your way
Appreciate the challenges because when you do achieve it it will mean so much more
Perfectionist behavior is something I work on with my clients ALL of the time
